DAUGHTERS in GENERAL

My Sister-in-Law S. asked me the other day-- Don't you think it's so incredible that you have a daughter? This from someone who has three boys + husband and just had the sweetest baby girl. Wow!! I hadn't thought about it. When she said it my mind went back immediately to the ultrasound we had on Katie. When they said it was a girl all I could think about was another head of hair to get ready for on Sunday and the accompanying screaming-- resulting in frazzlemommy. That being said, I've thought a lot more about what it means to have a daughter and Yes, S, I think it's so incredible that I have these amazing daughters.

I've been reading an amazingly insightful book called "The Wonder of Girls" which is written just for moms with girls-- you would not believe how much more I understand their moods, emotions and behaviors after reading this book. It focuses on physiological processes that determine behavior-- like hormones, cognitive development, brain function, etc. And I'll tell you, having lived it (READ: THE DRAMA, THE DRAMA, THE DRAMA), it's right on. ANd understanding why it happens has made me less prone to frustration when THE DRAMA rears its ugly head. If you've got girls, and if you are a girl, it's a must read.

That being said, since S's question I have thought a lot about how incredible it is to have a daughter. I am so blessed.
