SEMi- MoNThlY CHECK-IN

Been Busy.  Helping to throw a couple of funeral dinners, panicking about taxes that I put off for too long, taking on a way-too-ambitious decorating project, running, camping boot, running stadiums, taking photo workshops, letting my house go to pot. In the interest of showing some productivity and because I think craft/DIY blogs are the bee's knees, I thought I'd give you my version of the Maggie Bedroom Redo:  Maggie got selected to go to the Spanish fair in Provo-- 4 hours away.  Amy, with youthful zeal, desires to redo Maggie's bedroom.  It sounds like fun until Mom realizes that she will be doing much of the work because Maggie will only be gone for 1 night and 2 school days and, of course, Amy goes to school. Mom agrees anyway because she is so tired of the mismatched, hand-me-down, undesigned life.
BEFORE:  Mismatched Furniture, No design to speak of, and no display room
BOOOOOOOORING

Old bed that we like OK, but not loving the color. ANd you can't see it but the old nightstand was getting pretty dingy yellowed with age.

An Old hutch that I bought at a garage sale when we moved six years ago.  I always planned to use it but never did for anything more than a dust collector.  I thought it was the perfect time to either use it or send it to the DI.
AFTER:  24 Hours, an absent owner, 3 cans of white paint, primer, sand paper, 2 teenage girls (Amy and Ashley) tons of screaming and laughing and a lot of turquoise, white and black and you've got:
Window treatment covering the old blinds

Lots of white paint and some spray-painted knobs and it's brand-new. Sort of.

A little white paint, new tropical bedding, Placemats with vinyl letters and and really cool pillow that I upcycled that you can't see very well.   I think I shall go collapse now.  Wake me when the house is clean.
STUFF I HAVE LEARNED: 1. Prime, Prime, Prime    2. Sand, Sand, Sand    3.  When you only have 24 Hours, your idea of acceptable shifts downward   4. In spite of any level of perfectionism they may exhibit in some aspects of their lives, 14&15-Year-Old girls should not be left to their own devices to paint.  There will inevitably be more drips, etc. than you would ever tolerate from yourself.  5. When it's your vision, you'd better supervise  6. Sometimes their vision's better and the best course of action is letting go and backing off.

Good Job, Girls!
