Throwing yourself a party is like. . .
Ummmmm, no appropriate metaphor is forthcoming-- just a few choice words for the realization that when you throw YOURSELF a party the work is done by . . . DaTaDaDa YOURSELF.
Next year I'm not getting older.

Oh Gail, you know that even if someone else threw you a party you would still do the work yourself! (someone like husbands and kids, I mean)
